"Welcome Back, Bravo" is a Season 2 episode of Johnny Bravo.
Synopsis[]
A record-keeping problem results in Johnny having to pass the fourth grade all over again.
Plot Summary[]
In Johnny's kitchen, Suzy is showing Bunny her glass of Sea-Monkeys. Johnny enters, holding a piece of mail for him from the state. Suzy reads it, revealing that Johnny never successfully completed the fourth grade due to a record-keeping error. In order to graduate, he must go back to school and pass the social skills criteria.
At school, Suzy is excited that Johnny is now her classmate and they can be "best friends," much to his agitation. Upon seeing the teacher, Ms. Winkleman, Johnny flirts with her and gets rejected for being one of her students. Winkleman then assigns Suzy to monitor Johnny's progress.
Johnny covered in food as Suzy grades his progress.
At the cafeteria, Johnny wants to cut in front of the kids, buy Suzy says no to him about it, because she will judging his every moves for the next three weeks, but he impatiently cuts in line and takes too much food for himself. After Johnny covers his classmate Mugsy in ice cream, Mugsy starts a very messy food fight. This gets Johnny an F in 'Cafeteria Conduct.' For show-and-tell, Johnny presents his own puppet show that mocks everyone else in class (except Ms. Winkleman) and accuses Suzy of having a crush on Smelly Raymond. This gets him an F in 'Respect for Others.'
On a field trip to the Museum of Extremely Dangerous Things, Suzy warns Johnny that he must get an A++ in 'Team Supportiveness' in order to pass. Ms. Winkleman guides the children through the exhibits, while Suzy and Johnny look at the 1944 Little Stinker Harbor Mine. Suzy wonders if it still works and Johnny, convinced everything in the museum is fake, pushes the button to detonate the mine. This starts a 20-second countdown and the two panic. Mugsy then attempts to attack Johnny with the museum's cobra, causing Johnny to stumble over the railing and onto the mine. Seconds later, it explodes, injuring no one but Johnny. Suzy and the rest of her class cheer, assuming he smothered it to save them.
Later, at Johnny's fourth grade graduation ceremony, he hobbles on-stage in multiple casts to accept his diploma. No longer a student, he tries to get a date with Ms. Winkleman, who rejects him once again.
Trivia[]
- In the first season, Suzy was a 2nd-grader (putting her at around 7 or 8-years-old) -- but this episode claims that (at least for the retool seasons), Suzy's a 4th-grader (putting her at around 9 or 10-years-old).
- While her exact age is never revealed, Suzy's generally assumed to be around 6 to 8-years-old. It's possible that Suzy may have skipped a grade (or two), especially since she's shown to be very intelligent for her age.
- This is Smelly Raymond's debut episode.
- Johnny’s Progress grades
- Cafeteria Conduct F
- Respect for Others F
- Team Supportiveness
- Johnny makes fun of his classmates, saying they will all get beat up in high school and live "boring, unrewarding lives." This is ironic, considering Johnny got bullied in high school himself, although this was not properly revealed until "The Time of My Life" (that is, unless the flashback in "Freudian Dip" takes place during those years.)
- Johnny also points out how the kids are short and "doofus-y", which can describe his childhood and teenage years as a "98 pound weakling", before he got buff.
- A character description from the Cartoon Network Latin America website stated Johnny was beaten up twice a day in high school alongside Carl.[1] This was the original plan, which was scrapped from the series bible, with the idea later being retooled after Van Partible regained creative control.
Cultural References[]
- In order to cut Suzy in line, Johnny claims to spot famous actor Leonardo DiCaprio.
Episode Connections[]
- This marks the first time that Suzy was distracted by a fake "celebrity spotting." The second was in "The Great Bunny Book Ban." This also occurs in "A League Of His Own," albeit with a celebrity name that Johnny just made up.
