Mona Herschbaum is Julie Herschbaum’s mother. She appears in Johnny-O And Juliet when she and her daughter Julie move in next door to Johnny and Bunny’s house. When she first meets Bunny, Mona is seen unloading her things in the back of her moving truck. When Johnny sees her beautiful daughter Julie he carries all of her boxes and trips over his feet causing him to drop the boxes, lose her temper and call Johnny a careless clumsy butterfingers. Upset with how Mona yelled at Johnny, Bunny and Mona instantly become enemies and Bunny told Johnny that she doesn’t want him to speak to the Herschbaums ever again. Johnny tries to get over the concrete wall that his mother built between their house and the Herschbaum’s house but he ends up getting caught by Mona resulting in him getting hurt. Johnny decides to listen to Little Suzy’s advice and find a way to make peace with Mona and Bunny. While the two mothers were pulling up weeds in their garden they find aphids on their flowers and they decide to call a truce and get rid of the aphids. When Johnny gets a barrel of aphids on him he runs into the big bug zapper which catches the attention of both mothers. Johnny confesses that he put the aphids on the flower gardens so they’d stop fighting and that he could date Julie. After hearing his confession, Mona told Johnny that she’d be proud to have a boy like him chasing mindlessly after her daughter and allows Johnny to speak to Julie. But when Julie throws Johnny into the bug zapper after he makes a pass at her, Mona tells Bunny that it would be better if she and Julie moved and Bunny tells her to keep in touch.
