"Lumberjack Johnny" is a Season 3 episode of Johnny Bravo.

Synopsis[]

Johnny becomes a lumberjack to win a kiss from the Lumberjack Queen, Monique.

Plot Summary[]

This section could use some clean-up and expansion.

Despite being terrible at lumberjacking, Johnny wins the contest by using his clumsiness with the lumberjacks all acknowledging his supposed skill. The female Lumberjack is also impressed and gives him the trophy. After she brings up the kiss, an excited Johnny is ready to take his prize but she reveals she is only the Lumberjack Princess and her mother is the Queen. Johnny is horrified to discover that her mother is shown to be a larger and unattractive version of her who tries to kiss Johnny for winning but he is scared off and runs in the forest with her chasing him to give him his prize, to his dismay.

After the pair are gone, The platypus is shown to be real and remarks its work is done.

Trivia[]

  • At the beginning of the episode, Johnny tells Pops that he had been "sitting on [his] butt watching the Cartoon Network all day", the respective channel for the series.
  • This is a rare time Johnny succeeds in impressing a girl, though he does not get the girl.
  • A storyboard reveals the episode's original twist ending: The winner's kiss is given by Jean Paul, much to Johnny's horror, as the scene pans right to reveal a line of lumberjacks also ready to give him a celebratory kiss.[1] This was presumably changed due to concerns from the Standards & Practices department, or cut for time.
    • Pieces of Johnny's original dialogue, "No, I thought," and "Can't we just shake hands?", made their way into the final ending.
    • The pan still ends on Neil the giant platypus, presumably having the same dialogue to close out the episode.
  • A storyboard reveals that, after Monique rejected Johnny, he began laughing at his own lumberjack puns and her use of "saps."[2] This was presumably cut for time.
  • This episode premiered alongside "Lodge Brother Johnny" and "Chain Gang Johnny" on the Cartoon Cartoon Fridays block. However, there seems to be confusion about the network's scheduling and claims that "Chain Gang Johnny", "Bootman", and a few others were aired out of production order during the season.

Episode Connections[]

  • This episode heavily references "Clan Of The Cave Boob", with Johnny taking Carl's role.
    • Johnny describes his lumberjack past as "[bestrodding] the north woods like a colossus", the same phrase Carl used to describe the Bravopithicus.
    • Johnny tells a long and fantastical tall tale.
    • After his tale, the lumberjack asks him "None of that story is true, is it?".
    • Johnny is chased by the lumberjack queen's mother, similarly to how Carl was chased by a very angry Johnny.
    • The platypus reveals itself to be real and talks to the viewer, much like Carl and the television from his caveman story.
    • Johnny's actions were motivated by him wanting a woman's attention, similar to how Carl was just telling a tale to keep Johnny's.
  • Slimey Pierre, the villain of "Yukon Yutz", can be seen watching the lumberjack contest from behind a tree.
  • Johnny runs away from a woodpecker, yelling that it is "all hopped up on suet." Previously, in "Pouch Potato," Johnny ran from a kangaroo, yelling that it was "all hopped up on eucalyptus."
