"Johnny Goes to Camp" is a Season 2 episode of Johnny Bravo.
Synopsis[]
Johnny gets on the wrong bus and ends up at a computer camp, with Carl as his councilor.
Plot Summary[]
While at the bus stop one day, Johnny's waiting to go to a karate camp called "Camp Chop Socky." After a woman throws Johnny into a trash can, the bus arrives and leaves without him (which he doesn't realize). Johnny ends up getting on a bus going to a computer camp called "Camp Gigabyte," which he doesn't realize until it's too late and is forced to endure a 14-hour bus ride surrounded by geeky children.
Upon finally arriving at the camp, the counselor who greets them is none other than Johnny's nerdy friend, Carl Chryniszzswics, who's surprised but excited to see Johnny. The meathead tries getting out of the camp, but Carl and the campers explain that Johnny's going to have to stay at the camp for an entire week, for two reasons:
- 1.) The bus that brought them to the camp won't be back for at least a week.
- 2.) They can only communicate with the world outside of camp using computers/email -- and since Johnny doesn't know how to use a computer (let alone knowing how to email), he doesn't have any way of contacting his mother.
Johnny has a terrible time at camp: He becomes terrified at night, gets a rude awakening by Carl in the morning, tries to swim in the lake and gets attacked, and does not understand a word of intelligent "moon man talk" from the other campers. The group later tells scary stories around a campfire, but Johnny's story is criticized for being unrealistic.
The next day, Carl brings Johnny and the campers on a walk through the woods. He stops when he sees a "symphidious stalecti", explaining that the flower's pollen can paralyze anyone instantly. The flower then spits pollen at Carl, temporarily paralyzing him. Johnny takes charge of the group before inevitably getting them lost. Without a compass, the other campers electrocute Johnny (to magnetize him) and throw him into a nearby stream. His body successfully points north before falling down a waterfall. The episode ends with the group boarding the bus, with Carl and the campers singing "99 Silicone Chips on the Wall" to an exhausted and injured Johnny, who screams.
Trivia[]
- This episode's plot seems to be a heavily retooled version of "Lost In Dandy Forest", an episode premise from the scrapped Season 2 series bible written by Van Partible and Seth MacFarlane.
- The symphidious stalecti was a fictional flower created for this episode.
- In this episode, Johnny does not know how to use a computer, nor communicate by e-mail.
- The plot is similar to the first Johnny Bravo comic story (released that same year) from Cartoon Network Starring, "Johnny Bigfoot", as both involve camping and Johnny not expecting to see Carl.
- The story was also written by John Crane, one of the writers on the show who did not work on this episode.
