"Good Knight Johnny" is a Season 2 episode of Johnny Bravo.
Synopsis[]
Johnny ends up at a renaissance fair but thinks that he's traveled back in time to the Middle Ages. He tries impressing the locals with his knowledge of the 20th-century but unintentionally ruins all the events at the fair. Johnny's eventually challenged to a joust by a mysterious black knight.
Plot[]
Having been inspired by "The Frog Prince," Johnny's at a pond full of frogs, looking for one to kiss so it can turn into a princess. One female frog he tries kissing knocks his sunglasses into the pond -- when Johnny finds his sunglasses and cleans the mud off of them, he sees a woman dressed up in a medieval-style princess costume and thinks that the female frog who knocked off his sunglasses turned into a human princess. He tries hitting on her, but she hits him in the head with a medieval flail and walks away from him.
He eventually follows her to the grounds of a renaissance faire and sees a bunch of people dressed up in medieval-style costumes and sees a bunch of stands selling stuff themed around the Middle Ages. Johnny (not realizing that it's just a renaissance faire) thinks that he's traveled back in time to the Middle Ages and tries using his knowledge of the 20th-centur to become their new king.
We then see the King and Queen of the renaissance faire, with the King (a man named Brad) complaining about how uncomfortable the costumes are. King Brad then commences a puppet show to be performed, which is eventually interrupted by Johnny, who tries displaying all sorts of things and knowledge, ruining the event for the fairgoers and is ultimately kicked out. Johnny's disappointed by what happened and decides to try and find a way home but soon sees the "princess" from before being chased by a mysterious black knight -- he manages to stop the black knight, but the girl gets mad at him for ruining a routine that they were practicing. The black knight challenges Johnny to a joust to get back at him, and it soon becomes apparent Johnny has no clue what jousting actually is.
We then see Johnny (now dressed up in a traditional knight-costume) being hoisted onto a horse by a faire jester and a minstrel, who have explained what jousting is to the meathead. The match soon begins, and the black knight easily knocks Johnny off his "horse" (really just two people in a horse costume) and out of his costume. Realizing that he's got no chance of defeating the black knight at jousting, Johnny then switches over to "Plan B," which consists of pathetically begging the black knight to not hurt him (while crying profusely). But then the black knight pulls off his helmet to reveal himself as Johnny's nerdy friend, Carl Chryniszzswics, who assures Johnny that he wasn't really going to hurt him. When Johnny expresses confusion at seeing Carl in the knight costume, Carl (who advises Johnny to get his injuries looked at) explains to the meathead that he's at a renaissance fair and never traveled back in time to the Middle Ages.
An angry Johnny grabs Carl by the neck, ties him up and launches off into the horizon via catapult. Johnny then goes up to the workers and fairgoers and criticizes them for being into what they're doing at the fair -- Johnny's then grabbed by a pair of guards in knight-costumes, tied to a post and has a cauldron of some gross gunk dumped on from a tower.
Trivia[]
- This is the first episode to air in the 2000s.
- Jousting is a sport dating back to medieval times in which two opponents (usually armored knights) fight each other on horseback with lances.
- Before removing his helmet, the black knight is voiced by Jeff Bennett (who also voices Johnny).
- In some dubs of (like the Romanian- and Latin American Spanish-dubs), the black knight shares Carl's regular voice actor, making the "twist" of Carl being the black knight all the more obvious.
Episode Connections[]
- After a frog steals Johnny's sunglasses, he yells "My glasses! I can't be seen without my glasses!". This is likely a reference to the Season 1 crossover "Bravo Dooby-Doo."
