"Get Stinky!" is a Season 3 episode of Johnny Bravo. It is the season finale and marked the end of the retool era, before Van Partible was brought back for Season 4.
Synopsis[]
Johnny's childhood bully, Stinky Brownstein, moves back to town and is now romantically interested in him, but he is unable to see past all the mean practical jokes she used to play on him.
Trivia[]
The first page of "Pretty and Dumb".
- This is one of few episodes to have been storyboarded by multiple artists.
- The series had not been renewed for another season at the time, leaving this episode (and its sibling segments) as a temporary series finale before creator Van Partible was brought back for Season 4.
- Bunny offers Stinky a plate of pickles and grape juice.
- A comic story from Cartoon Network Block Party, "Pretty and Dumb", has a very similar plot to this episode. In the comic, a famous actress that went to school with Johnny (and had a crush on him) visits Anytown and takes him out on a date. However, Johnny refuses to look at her because he hated her as a kid and assumes she is still ugly. It is likely that this premise was in the series bible and went unused until it got reworked into "Get Stinky!", as said comic was written in 2006.
- As a child, Julie had pigtails, much like Stinky.
- Julie also says "Oh, Johnny, you're so funny," which Stinky says once in the episode.
Episode Connections[]
- This is the second time Johnny is revealed to have been bullied in school as a child, the first being "Freudian Dip".
- Stinky is not the last bully to trick Johnny into thinking she has changed for the better, as a similar plot point was used toward the end of "T Is For Trouble".
Cultural References[]
- Johnny's persona "Arachnid Guy" is a parody of Spider-Man.
- When the townspeople spot Johnny climbing the building, they say "Look! Up on that building! It's a jerk!" "It's an idiot!" "Someone call the cops!", a twist on the famous Superman quote.
- Stinky bullying Johnny as a kid is a reference to Helga’s crush on Arnold from Hey Arnold and just like Helga, Stinky had pigtails when she was a kid and has the same first name as Stinky Peterson.
Production Notes[]
- The credits are dated 2000. Unlike other episodes from this season, which aired throughout 2001, "Get Stinky!" and its sister segments were aired one year later on June 14, 2002. The reason why it was premiered so late is unknown.
- Although this episode aired June 14, 2002, it was actually produced in 2000 according to the credits. It is also the final episode to be produced in 2000.
- It is the final episode from Hanna-Barbera before it was folded into Cartoon Network Studios.
- This is also the final episode of the retool era until Van Partible has returned for the fourth and final season.
