- After Johnny gets hit by dodgeballs and stumbles into the road, he seems to hallucinate that he is Ted Kennedy and says "When I returned, Mary Jo and the car were gone. Time to get back to Congress and spin around in my chair," a satirical reference to the Chappaquiddick incident.
- As Johnny takes the Rorschach test, he recognizes one of the inkblots as "Tony, the little man who lives in [his] mouth," referencing the Danny Torrance quote from the 1980 film adaption of The Shining.
