- Waiting a certain period of time after eating to swim (and avoid drowning from cramps) is actually just a myth.
- Pops warns Johnny to wait an entire hour. The most common version of the myth today is 30 minutes.
- In an issue of Cartoon Network Starring, there is a comic story with the same premise (and the same title as a Season 1 episode), titled "Beach Blanket Bravo".
- Both this episode and the comic make a joke about Carl giving Johnny mouth-to-mouth after drowning. However, in the comic, Carl only offers to do so and gets declined, as Johnny is fully conscious.
