Cartoon Network Block Party is an arcade-style video game for the Game Boy Advance developed by Monkeystone Games and One Man Band LLC. It was published by Majesco Entertainment in the United States on August 5th, 2004 and in Europe and Oceania on September 15th, 2004. The game is based on four Cartoon Cartoons, including Johnny Bravo.

Game Description[]

"Get the party started with six of your favorite characters from Courage the Cowardly Dog, Cow and Chicken, Ed Edd 'n Eddy, and Johnny Bravo!

Master 14 unique mini-games: Skatin' the U, Backyard Boogie, Greased Porkbutts, and more. Play on four colorful Cartoon Network themed game boards. Challenge up to three friends in multi-player mode."

Gameplay[]

The gameplay is very similar to Nintendo's Mario Party series. One of the game boards is Planet Johnnywood, which features non-playable Johnny Bravo characters such as Carl Chryniszzswics, Little Suzy (as 'Susie'), and Master Hama. The board also has a spot for Pops' Moon Palace, where you must purchase a pie.

The Johnny Bravo mini-games are:

  • Strike A Pose: A game featuring Carl at Pops' diner trying to impress ladies by making various poses. If the player fails, a pie is thrown into Carl's face.
  • Fish Frenzy: The player needs to catch as many fish as possible before time runs out. If the player hooks a piranha and does not remove it in time, it drags the boat to the bottom of the lake.
  • Cold Cash Workout: The player moves through a gym collecting money that others have dropped while trying to avoid flying objects.

In the intro cutscene to Planet Johnnywood, Johnny sees Carl and learns he has a date for that night. Johnny then wants to help him impress his date by giving him a new look. The objective of the board is to buy hair goo, a black t-shirt, a corn dog, pie, and collect 50 dollars.

After the objective is completed and Carl gets a makeover, he now crudely resembles Johnny. If the player character is Johnny, Carl's date arrives and becomes disgusted by his new look before reversing all of Johnny's work. The two then leave Johnny to go on their date. If the player character is from another series, Carl's date arrives, disgusted by them both. She then turns to the player and asks if they want to go out to dinner instead. The two leave, Johnny telling Carl that the girl was not right for him anyways. The cutscene ends with the two dancing in place.

Trivia[]

  • Block Party, like the comic series of the same name and other merchandise, puts a larger emphasis on Carl's interest in dating and involves Johnny attempting to help him impress girls, which goes astray due to Johnny's macho ego and inexperience with dating.
    • In the series itself, Carl is nowhere near as women-focused as Johnny, while Johnny is much too self-absorbed to help Carl impress any women he may also find attractive (ex. Melinda).
    • Johnny is also a much better friend to Carl in the game compared to how he treats him in the series. He is relatively kind, calling him phrases like "buddy" and "amigo", congratulates him on his date, and later (depending on the ending) tries to reassure him when his date leaves, calling him "Carly ol' boy".
