Cartoon Network: Name That Toon is a trivia Golden Book that was released by Random House on February 1, 2001. It contains character descriptions, fun facts, creator bios, etc. for eight different Cartoon Cartoons: Dexter's Laboratory, The Powerpuff Girls, Johnny Bravo, Ed Edd 'n Eddy, Mike, Lu & Og, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Cow and Chicken, and I Am Weasel.
In the Johnny Bravo section of the book, there are bios given for five characters: Johnny, Bunny Bravo, Little Suzy, Carl Chryniszzswics, and Pops. Included is a creator bio on Van Partible, fun facts, and a quiz on what the reader just learned.
Trivia[]
- Despite the inclusion of Van Partible's bio, the character descriptions are based on the second and third seasons of the series, which he did not work on. However, the Christmas special was in production when the book was released, while Season 4 was not yet greenlit.
- The book refers to Johnny's sunglasses as Ray-Bans in a quirky fashion.
- The information in the book is from the retooled series bible for Season 2, as there are some details and inaccuracies that went unaddressed in the series itself:
- Bunny Bravo is revealed to be sixty years old.
- Carl is revealed to have been Johnny's best friend during high school, which changed after "Johnny got buff and Carl got nerdier." This was also briefly mentioned on the Cartoon Network Latin America website, making it non-exclusive to the book.[1]
- Pop's Moon Palace is referred to as 'Pops' Soda Shoppe'. This is due to the diner being a retooled version of the Season 1 soda shoppe, previously planned to be a recurring setting in Partible and MacFarlane's vision for Season 2. On the Spanish version of the Cartoon Network LA website, the diner is referred to as an ice cream parlor, making this non-exclusive to the book.[2]
- It is stated that Johnny has never been on a successful date with a girl. This is true to the retool era and mentioned in "To Helga And Back", although certain later episodes imply he has never been on any kind of date at all.
