Trivia[]
- On Cartoon Orbit, a set of cToons based on this episode were released: Bootman, She-Hunk, Mr. Elastic, and Manboy. A gToon, 'Johnny Superhero', was later released on March 24th, 2003.
- In a YouTube video by Channel Frederator (with help from creator Van Partible) titled "107 Johnny Bravo Facts YOU Should Know!", it is stated that this episode premiered on September 11, 2001 and that parents filed complaints with the network for letting it air due to the (now terribly timed) plane crash scene. This is false, although director Kirk Tingblad claims the episode was pulled from rotation after 9/11 for four years. He also claims the episode was aired on the Sunday of September 9, 2001, which soon caused controversy.[2]
- It is unknown if a rerun of the segment was aired during The Cartoon Cartoon Show block on 9/11, but no full episodes of Johnny Bravo that were planned to air that day contained the segment.[3]
- It is also claimed that episodes 9, 10, and 11 were all pulled from rotation, however this lacks a reliable source. It is unknown if other episodes that were very likely to meet the same fate, such as "Runaway Train" (which featured Johnny hijacking a train and getting called a terrorist) and "A Reject Runs Through It" (which also featured a plane crash and explosion) were included.
Cultural References[]
- The Green Swoosh is a parody of The Green Lantern.
- After Johnny tells the Green Swoosh to “unclench [his] toes” while struggling to remove the boots, the boots eventually knock Johnny off camera, causing Green Swoosh to reveal his red socks that roll away into the falling meteor that he was injured by, a reference to how the Wicked Witch of the East met her fate in The Wizard of Oz.
- After Johnny throws the airplane and feasts on the peanuts, he quotes the Peter Parker principal, saying "With great power comes great responsibility. Mmm, and free peanuts!"
Episode Connections[]
- The boots do not make Johnny smart enough to remember the Pythagorean theorem, but this changes when he is given a smart drink in "I.Q. Johnny".
