So a guy walks into a bar and says he hadn't had a bite in 3 days... So I had him arrested and sent him to a reeducation camp! Bwahahahaha!

—Big Brother

Big Brother is the supreme tyrannical dictator of the 25th century, having enslaved much of the world and the loyalty of the masses through his daily and mandatory self-hosted variety TV show The Big Brother Comedy Hour, which provides his subjects with mind-numbing entertainment and stand-up comedy courtesy of Big Brother himself which are in actuality subliminal reminders of the consequences that come to those who question Big Brother's rule.

He is the main antagonist of "Brave New Johnny", having conquered Johnny's world which had become a polluted dystopian nightmare after six World Wars, two global plagues and other untold disasters.

Story[]

And now, a man who never gets tired of policing your mind, Big Brother!

—Announcer

After Johnny was accidentally placed in suspended animation after falling into a vat of hair gel and becoming perfectly preserved, he was flung into the future. Five-hundred years had passed while Johnny was trapped, with world wars and plagues occurring during this time. It is unknown when Big Brother conquered the world or for how long he has ruled, but under his rule it is a devastated place of polluted skies, mutant roaches and decaying technology, devoid of freedom and basic needs where his evil is law.

Johnny was eventually revived by Carl 97324, Carl Chryniszzswics's direct descendant in the 25th century who took Johnny on a tour of the future. Before their tour could be finished, the siren for The Big Brother Comedy Hour flared across the world, forcing Carl to hastily take Johnny to one of Big Brother's studios to watch Big Brother's broadcast. As Carl had no time to tell Johnny of Big Brother's status, Johnny was very vocal about his dislike towards Big Brother's performance and started heckling Big Brother himself after seeing his show's line-up and hearing him make jokes about sending hungry civilians to re-education camps. Big Brother was less than amused by Johnny's sass, and so ordered his guards to seize Johnny for either re-education or execution, forcing Carl to flee with Johnny into hiding, making both fugitives.

Johnny was able to escape back to the past though by using Carl's time machine, but shortly after returning to the past, Johnny once again fell into a vat of hair gel, and shortly after he falls, Big Brother's face appears once again ordering his guards to seize Johnny, suggesting that Johnny was once again flung forward in time where Big Brother's evil is still law.

You know buddy, I'll say to you what I say to all my critics-- SEIZE HIM!

Big Brother

Big Brother initially appears as a charming comedian who maintains an air of warmth and good humor like a typical television host to mask his evil nature. In truth, he is a tyrannical despot who uses entertainment to control the masses and enforce laws that limit food, basic necessities and even romance, with even kissing being forbidden under his authority and the citizens being forced to eat moldy damp soy mulch. Under his rule, the future lacks many of the necessities Johnny had expected, with regular gasoline-power cars still in use, no robots anywhere to be seen, cockroach mutants living alongside humans, and a highly polluted ecosystem which has caused the world to appear dark and dismal with red skies and an orange hue permeating everywhere.

He commands armies of loyal followers that enforce his will and sends those who question his will to re-education camps. His ban on kissing has also caused normal romantic interaction to be replaced with "Hyper-Lip Mandibulator", which instead cause the recipient to experience horribly painful yet enticing electric shocks with each transmitted kissing sensation.

Big Brother also seems to take some genuine pride in his status as the world's sole entertainer and comedian, being greatly offended when Johnny heckled his act and said his show stunk, with Big Brother even admitting that he has all of his critics seized.

Trivia[]

  • Big Brother is a pastiche of the two main antagonistic forces in the famous dystopian novels Brave New World and Nineteen Eighty-Four, being a fusion of the World State's Mustapha Mond and Oceania's Big Brother.
    • Like the World State and its main representative Mustapha Mond, Big Brother keeps his subjects devoid of freedom and supresses freethought by providing them with mindlessly pleasing entertainment while stagnating their intelligence.
    • Like his namesake, Big Brother is an enigmatic and revered figure who rules his subjects through tyranny and fear of punishment while posing as a protector of the people through idolatry.
  • The opening theme for his TV show is actually a shorter upbeat rendition of Ode to Joy from Beethoven's 9th Symphony.
    • Considering the song is meant to promote peaceful co-existence and that the characters Big Brother is based on ruled the world by maintaining a false image of peace and co-existence, its rather fitting he would choose this as his theme.
