"A Walk On The Stupid Side" is a Season 3 episode of Johnny Bravo.

Synopsis[]

When Suzy tricks Johnny into running a marathon to raise money for baldness (with it being run by supermodels), Johnny accepts, but when he is given the wrong direction, he takes a wrong turn and travels around the world, which worries Suzy, Bunny and Carl as they sponsored Johnny and would have to pay billions of dollars for each mile he ran.

Summary[]

Johnny has somehow managed to bury himself underneath a large pile of pizza boxes but ultimately frees himself (after apparently being stuck there for several days). He's shocked by a surprise visit from his next-door neighbor, Little Suzy, who asks the meathead to participate in a charity walkathon that she's helping to organize (specifically the city's annual "Walk Against Baldness"). With how the walkathon works, for every mile walked, more money is donated by whomever is sponsoring the contestants -- when Johnny questions why Suzy isn't participating in the walkathon herself, she claims that she's still tired out from a different walkathon that she had participated in the previous week. Johnny initially turns Suzy down, but eagerly agrees to it when Suzy claims that the Walk Against Baldness is being organized by "concerned shapely supermodels." After Johnny agrees to participate in the walkathon, Suzy promises to be his first sponsor (albeit at a penny per mile).

A few days later, the walk is ready to start. A pretty woman is at the registration booth signing participants up. Johnny arrives and starts his usual flexing and flirting, but also misunderstands that the walk is to fight baldness rather than bald people. The girl running the booth gets him registered and offers him a map of the route. Johnny flirts with her some more and asks her if there is a shortcut. The girl tells him to go left at the first turn to get to the finish line sooner, then punches him for being annoying.

The walkathon starts, and Johnny makes the first left turn off the path. Sometime later, Carl and Suzy are at the Bravo-residence with Bunny, watching the TV-coverage of the walkathon -- Bunny suddenly gets a bad feeling about her son's participation in the race, which is ultimately proven right when the news anchor reveals that Johnny has run thousands of miles off-course and adds that the only people dumber than Johnny are the ones who sponsored him for the walkathon. Carl laughs at the idea of anyone sponsoring Johnny until Suzy reminds him that they and Bunny are all sponsoring Johnny for the walkathon -- after doing some calculations, Suzy realizes that if and when Johnny ever makes it to the finish line, the three of them will ultimately have to pay a sum that's worth well over $3-billion. Obviously not wanting to pay that kind of money (even if it is for charity), the trio does everything they can to prevent Johnny from finishing the walkathon.

Johnny walks over the Pacific Ocean using a pair of life preserver shoes -- Carl catches up to him via motorboat and tries convincing him to turn back, but the meathead refuses, stupidly thinking that Carl's in cahoots with the bald people. Carl then pulls out a blowgun with a tranquilizer dart inside, but he accidentally shoots it at Johnny's life preserver-shoes, which propels him to the other side of the ocean.

Johnny eventually arrives in China and uses his pointy pompadour to drill through the Great Wall, where he runs into his mom on the other side. Bunny has set up a large table full of food made with the intention of bloating her son up and making him too tired to finish the walkathon -- but after Johnny polishes off all the food, he's now energized instead of sleepy and rushes off to finish the walkathon. Bunny's confused by this, but after taste-testing a burrito (one of the foods that she made for her son), she realizes that she had used coffee beans instead of black beans (explaining why Johnny was so full of energy despite eating all that food).

Johnny soon reaches Africa, where Suzy has summoned a blockade of elephants. Johnny decides he must fight these "giant, leather-skinned, bald men" to progress, but first he must change his socks for better traction. After removing his shoes and socks, the smell from his feet is so powerful it causes the elephants to run away. At this point, Carl and the girls have run out of ideas to stop Johnny and head back to Aron City.

The trio wait for Johnny at the finish line, worrying about the debt they will soon owe. They see Johnny rushing to the finish line, but he ends up passing out from exhaustion at the last second, just short of the finish line. Since Johnny technically didn't finish the walkathon, Carl and the girls don't have to pay any of the money -- Bunny picks up her son and they, Carl and Suzy all head home. Off to the side, three shady bald men in trench coats watch the group leave implying that Johnny was correct that the bald men were evil. Their leader says their worldwide conspiracy will continue as the episode ends.

Goofs[]

  • At the end of the episode, Johnny's body looks much too small when he is picked up by Bunny.

Trivia[]

  • This episode contains three instances of characters "breaking the fourth wall".
    • At the start, Johnny's disembodied voice says it has been "three days since the fourth wall collapsed", seconds before revealing he is actually trying to escape a stack of pizza boxes.
    • When Carl, Bunny, and Suzy are to split up, Bunny accidentally runs into the camera, cracking the lens.
    • After Bunny realizes Johnny ate coffee beans instead of black beans, she looks at the camera and compares the situation to "some horrible sitcom-y mix-up."

Episode Connections[]

  • Suzy's codename, Small Fry, is the same as her supervillain codename in the Johnny-less reality from "Johnny's Guardian Angel".
